We believe that everyone, regardless of social status, deserves a safe and healthy place to live.
In most rural areas, widows are living in abject poverty because most are robbed of their houses and assets when their husbands die, and most can’t get decent sources of livelihood due to age and lack of access to capital.
As such, they have to make to with dilapidated undignified grass-thatched houses or houses made of plastic paper bags. The houses are leaky, prone to destruction by wind, and rains, and do not offer safety for the often vulnerable inhabitants. The Foundation supports the widows by building better, affordable and decent houses for them, enabling beneficiaries to spend their scarce resources on food, medicine, child care, education and other essentials.
Over and above that, in cases where widows have been disenfranchised, LNF helps them secure land tenure through formal mechanisms of land ownership.
We also train beneficiaries on financial literacy, business management and product development to empower them with the skills they need to earn better income.
